Coffee would have been discovered in Ethiopia. Legends say that coffee was discovered by Kaldi a young shepherd. He observed that his goats had a strange behavior after having eated some special red berries. He brought these berries to the closest monastery and explained the phenomena to the Prior. This Prior had the good idea to let them boil in order to create a decoction. Then monks became used to drink this beverage in order to keep awaken during the long praying hours.
