Coffee could disappear in 2050

As for cocoa, coffee could become a very rare commodity in the next decades. Could imagine that nightmare of a World without coffee ?

According to Climate Institute, 50% of the coffee cultures could disappear becaus of global warming. This issue has already been observed in several areas in the World.

Scientists explain that the global warming stimulates the profileration of bacterium, specially one of them which is very dangerous for Arabicas. John Connor, Institute’s Directo ris warning : « consumers will face a huge decrease of stocks, a great impact about aromas and flavors, but a historical prices increase ».

This issue is not only about consumers : coffee farmers will be the population suffering the most. In the 30 next years,production will be divided by two, and could disappear in 2080. Impact could be devastating : about 70 countries are living thanks to coffee culture, and about 120 million people are depending on coffee economy !

Nowadays, more than 2 billion of cups are drunk everyday, in the World. Production was multiplied by 3 over the last 50 years. But coffee farms are still small, in general, and very exposed to short-term risks.

All of us has to pay attention to his ecological imprint, or we cannot be sure that our childre will have the same pleasure to savor our favorite drink.
